Putnam City 54, Edmond North 33 (boys)
The Edmond North boys weren’t able to take advantage of a Putnam City team absent of freshman phenom Xavier Henry, as the No. 2 Pirates used defense to run by the Huskies Friday night.
Xavier Henry was out for the second straight game with an illness, but it didn’t matter much, as Putnam City led 20-6 at the end of the first period and was never threatened the rest of the way.
Demetrice Young led Putnam City with 14 points, while Oklahoma signee Keith Clark added 10.
Prince Shaw was North’s top scorer with nine points, followed by Patrick Grimes with seven.
The Huskies played Putnam City even in the second period to stay within 29-15 at halftime.
When Walter Bailey threw down a dunk with more than three minutes to go in the third, they had managed to get within 36-25.
But North didn’t hit a field goal the rest of the game and didn’t score again until the 4:53 mark of the fourth off a pair of Grimes free throws.
By that time, the score had grown to 49-25.
