Williams leads Duncanville past Antioch, into semifinals
The Duncanville, Texas Panthers moved into the winner’s semifinal round with a 62-52 win over Antioch, Tenn. Thursday at the Rumble on the Ridge tournament.
Shawn Williams led Duncanville with 24 points, eight rebounds and one assist with help from Brian Talley, who added 16 points.
Kyle Upton led Antioch with 19 points and two assists while Coty Clark added 12 points and Brian Clarke chipped in nine points. Coty Clarke pulled down nine rebounds.
Duncanville will face Richwood, La. today at 5 p.m., while Antioch will face White Station, Tenn. at 3:30 p.m.
Richwood, La., who played in the 2004 Rumble, got 20 points from LSU-bound Storm Warren in a 68-54 win over White Station.
Warren grabbed 14 rebounds to put together a double-double.
Leslie Davis added 19 points for Richwood while Rydell Harris and Zamarion Parker each finished with 13 points. Parker hit three, three pointers in the third period.
Joe Jackson, who won the slam dunk contest held Wednesday night as part of the pre-tournament activities, led White Station with 23 points. Jordan Miles had nine and Andre Hollins finished with seven points.
•Garen Wright led Putnam City, Okla. to a 72-68 win over New Hope, Miss. Thursday by scoring 18 points and grabbing six rebounds.
Xavier Henry added 17 points and Joy Richardson helped out with 10.
Putnam City will face Forrest City in a winner’s semifinal game tonight at 8 p.m.
Putnam City led by as many as 15 points in the second half, before New Hope, making their second straight appearance at the Rumble, sliced the lead to less than 10 points in the fourth period, and trailed by only three points at 65-62 with 1:16 left in the game.
New Hope’s Michael Payton dropped in two free throws with 11 seconds left to get within two points at 70-68 before Brandon Jackson closed it out with two free throws for Putnam City.
New Hope senior Guard Dale Hughes, who won Wednesday night’s three-point shootout, finished with 21 points to lead all scorers while Rashanti Harris added 15 points and eight rebounds and Payton finished with 13 points.
Putnam City dropped in 12-of-15 free throws in the fourth period and finished by hitting 16 of their 23 chances from the foul line.
New Hope hit 14 of their 25 free throws, eight of those coming in the fourth period.
New Hope finished seventh at last year’s Rumble and will face Northeast Lauderdale, Miss. today at 6:30 p.m.
Northeast Lauderdale lost to Forrest City, 64-47 on Thursday.
